Grumpy Cat Meme to Become a Movie [VIDEO]
The popular Internet meme Grumpy Cat will be starring in her own movie.
Representatives for the Grumpy Cat meme have reached a movie deal with Broken Road Productions, the same studio that produced The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Jack & Jill and Zookeeper.
The meme features a cat with an angry expression on its face and has become an Internet phenomenon. The meme has its own website where T-shirts and other merchandise are sold.
Producers are looking to "produce and assemble a package for a Garfield-like feature film." Grumpy Cat will be voicing her thoughts aloud to the audience, much like the Bill Murray-voiced Garfield.
The cat itself, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, is expected to star in the live-action film.
"This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy," said producer Todd Garner, "You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character."
The meme won the 2013 Webby Award for Meme of the Year. Grumpy Cat has over 870,000 likes on Facebook and over 150,000 followers on Twitter.
The cat has her own compilation book called Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book: Disgruntled Tips and Activities Designed to Put a Frown on Your Face. The cat is in New York this week to promote the book.
This will not be Tardar Sauce's film debut as she was featured in the film Lil Bub & Friendz, a film about cat memes. The film debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in April.

As for how Tardar Sauce feels about the new movie deal, the cat's agent Ben Lashes said, "she hates movies."
