Ever since "Game of Thrones" season 7 was announced, fans have been patiently waiting for George R.R. Martin to drop his "The Winds of Winter". However, it seems that the release date of the book is nowhere close to what fans were anticipating. That being said, some rumors claim that George R.R. Martin has finished writing the book.

By his own admission, George R.R. Martin states that he is not an architect, and rather sees himself as a gardener. Rather than constructing the story, he lets the story grow, trimming parts of it to turn it into a beautiful literary piece. According to 'Winds of Winter' rumors, there are a lot of things that George R.R. Martin wants to tie up.

In January 2017, the "Winds of Winter" author said that the book would release in 2017, and it would coincide with "Game of Thrones" season 7. However, he also stressed on the fact that he had already promised that the book would land by 2016, which it didn't. Further, in February 2017 he said that he would announce the delivery of the book months before it got published.

On being asked if the reason for this delay is due to "writer's block", he said that he already has a lot of plotlines in his mind that needs to end, and he also said that he doesn't have writer's block. He just has too much to do.

"Winds of Winter" rumors to be as epic as its predecessor, "A Dance with Dragons" which was released way back in 2011. George R.R. Martin has said that "Winds of Winter" release date is forthcoming in the near future, and would have interesting viewpoints on characters such as Sansa Stark, Barristan Selmy, Tyrion Lannister, Cersei Lannister, Arya Stark and Theon Greyjoy.

Meanwhile, some "Winds of Winter" rumors suggest that the book would hit shelves by September 20, 2017, on George R.R. Martin's 70th birthday.
