Sunday night's Tony Awards opening number showcased host Neil Patrick Harris singing and dancing with acts from different Broadway shows while making a few digs at celebrities.

The performance began with Harris singing in the smaller-scale, guitar-heavy style of Once, last year's winner for Best Musical. With just his guitar, he made reference to the fact that the stage was bigger this year, having moved to Radio City Music Hall from the Beacon Theatre. He then proceeded to launch into a big, lavish production with backup dancers and magic tricks.

After bringing out the casts of this year's Best Musical nominees (Bring It On, A Christmas Story, Kinky Boots and Matilda) there was a guest appearance by Mike Tyson. The Hangover 3 star came out to dance awkwardly and cheer "Go, Neil, go!" before quickly leaving the stage. Tyson had his own one-man show this year that chronicled his life.

Harris threw in a few disses at select celebrities:

"I wouldn't be here if someone else hadn't passed on hosting. So special thanks to Shia LaBeouf for this opportunity," Labeouf made headlines in the theater world after dropping out of the Broadway play Orphans.

Also teased was Tom Hooper and the cast of the 2012 film adaptation of Les Miserables:

"Can I have my 'Tom Hooper Les Miz close-up' please?" he asked. "On Broadway we don't need extreme close-ups to prove we're singing live."

Anne Hathaway's I Dreamed a Dream performance in the film, shot in extreme close-up, was probably the main target of the diss.

For the grand finale of his opening number Harris listed almost every Broadway production over the last 10 years, as representatives from each production came out on stage. As actors and singers filled the entire stage, Harris climbed to the top of a huge Tony Award replica, showing that he really was "going bigger."
