Earlier, we reported that Tamar Braxton has filed for divorce from her husband, Vincent Herbert, after nine years.

The two were said to be having marital woes and have been fighting off rumors for the past couple of years. Now, Braxton has made their split official.

She released a statement via a representative to PEOPLE Wednesday.

“At this time we can confirm Ms. Braxton has made an extremely difficult decision and has filed for divorce from Vincent Herbert,” the source said. “Collectively, their son Logan and his well-being during this extremely unfortunate process is most important. We ask that everyone respects her privacy during this incredibly difficult time. She appreciates everyone’s love and prayers.”

News of the split made headlines just weeks after Braxton announced her decision to retire from coming out with new music. She said in multiple interviews that he was to protect her union with Herbert, who is a well-known music executive.

“There’s a lot of things that are going on in my relationship and me being close to this music industry, and whatever I can do to eliminate all of the stress and problems off of my relationship, I would rather do that,” she told ET last month. “My husband and I work very close together and it’s really hard, you know? Not only do we work together, he is my baby daddy and, you know, we’ve been together forever. He’s my best friend. It’s a lot of things to discuss and argue about.”

It’s not clear what happened in the last month for Braxton to move forward and pull the plug on their relationship.

Interestingly enough, Braxton’s former The Real co-hosts spoke on the news just moments after it broke. Loni Love, who was accused of being a reason Braxton was fired the from the show, told the audience and viewers the news while pointing out their “differences” with Braxton. Jeannie Mai, who announced her own divorce this week, added that Braxton needs the support of family and friends right now.

Adrienne Houghton and Tamera Mowry-Housley also spoke on it and said they would be praying for Braxton and their family.

Herbert and Braxton went through lots of health issues together as Herbert suffered from blood clots and Braxton faced a nearly fatal experience in the hospital last year. There were also reports of physical abuse occurring in the relationship.

Their reality show is still set to return to WeTV Thursday Nov. 9 at 9/8c.
