Russell Crowe turned down an offer from Britney Spears to record a duet for a new version of her song Toxic, and the actor discussed the incident during his June 14 appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

The actor joked with his followers on Twitter about the similarities between his costume in the film Les Miserables and the flight attendant uniform Spears wore in the promo photo of the 2004 track.

Crowe's comments prompted a tweet from Spears, asking him if he would like to get together to record a "mash-up" of the song. However, the Gladiator star declined because he had not heard of the music mixing technique. He explained the incident to United Kingdom talk show host Graham Norton in an interview on his talk show.

"A guy sent it to me and I thought it was so funny I re-tweeted it. Then Britney Spears tweets me and says, 'Let's get together to do a song, a Toxic song mash-up'. I've no idea what it meant and I was like, 'It was just a joke love.' "
