Amy Adams said that she relished playing Lois Lane in the new Superman movie Man of Steel because just like the character, she considers herself a "mere mortal."

"I've wanted to be in a superhero movie, and this was my best chance," the actress told Allure's July 2013 issue"Let's be real here. I don't look that good in Lycra. I do all right, but I hadn't anticipated that I was ever going to be cast as the girl in Lycra looking hot."

A skimpy bathing suit may not be in order for the actress either: "'I'm just not going to be one of those people photographed in a bikini where people are like, 'OMG, look at Amy!'

"I mean, it might be OMG, but not for the reasons I want," she added.

Though her language may be self-deprecating, Adams is more than willing to embrace the parts of herself that others might call flaws. She told the publication she believes her pale skin might leave her featureless when she's not wearing make-up, but it's in fact ideal for her craft:

"You could just paint my face -- it's like a blank canvas," she said. "It can be great for what I do."

It's a message Adams hopes to pass on to her own young daughter, 3-year-old Aviana, and something others in Hollywood could give a try.

"Some of these actresses or public personas who are very public about their disciplined diets - more power to them. I just don't see the point," said Adams, discussing some of her peers. "Perfect isn't normal, nor is it interesting."

Adams even lives that message in her personal life, spent living low-key with her daughter and long-time partner Darren Le Gallo. They have been engaged since 2008, though Adams said that time constraints have gotten in the way of them finally tying the knot. However, her desire to go through with a wedding has never wavered.

"We both have a very specific idea that we want to do [the ceremony] in spring or fall, like in those months, but every time I'm busy working," she added. "I want something very family oriented and laid-back."

Man of Steel opened in June 14 to sales of $113 million, with a cumulative box office of over $125 million.

The July issue of Allure hits newsstands on June 25.
