Fans of Big Little Lies will again see Ed Mackenzie, played by Adam Scott, in the season 2 of the hit HBO dark drama series.

Scott is reprising his role as the husband of Reese Witherspoon's character, Madeline Martha Mackenzie, for season 2 of Big Little Lies. He will join returning cast members Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoe Kravitz.

"Very flattered and excited to be back on this great show. Hoping it will catch on," Scott tweeted.

Scott is currently starring in FOX's Ghosted, a series that will return on March 18. The comedy show also stars Craig Robinson. Fans of the 44-year-old actor will also see him in Max Winkler's Flower, slated to be released on March 16.

Details

Season 2 newcomer is award-winning actress Meryl Streep, who will play as Mary Louise Wright, Perry's mother. Perry is played by Alexander Skarsgard, who was rumored to be returning as well in Big Little Lies despite his fate in season 1. Skarsgard had won a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and a SAG award for his role.

Other series cast is expected to trickle down in the coming weeks. Returning casts, according to insiders, had gotten an enormous raise, with Witherspoon and Kidman getting $1 million per episode, a far cry from what they were getting per episode in season 1, $250,000-$350,000.

Big Little Lies season 2 will focus on marital issues, friendship, parenting, and of course, the virulence of lies. Scott's character would have to deal with marital problems. Some noted that these problems could arise from his wife's past affair.

It was in December when HBO had announced that Big Little Lies would be back for a second season. The show was well-received and even lauded, earning eight Emmy Awards last year. It was based on Liane Moriarty's book of the same name.

Meanwhile, fans could expect how the second season will play out, considering Jean-Marc Vallee, who directed all season 1 episodes, would be handing the steering wheel to someone else. He would be executive producing for the second run of Big Little Lies, along with Witherspoon, Kidman, Per Saari, David Kelley, Bruna Papandrea, Gregg Fienberg, and Nathan Ross.

Andrea Arnold, credited for Wasp, will do the directing for the seven episodes and is also an executive producer. Kelley will write the script for season 2 episodes, based on Moriarty's newly made story.

Big Little Lies season 2 is expected to air sometime in 2019, though no official word has been given yet. Production will start spring this year.
