One good doctor is enough when it comes to The Walking Dead. Apparently, the show has a pattern of killing off the second extra doctor, according to a fan.

'Neither Can Live While The Other Survives'

The latest episode of the AMC zombie series, "Dead or Alive Or," saw Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) and Dr. Harlan Carson (R. Keith Harris) on the run as they attempted to get away from the threat of the Saviors. The men have escaped from the Sanctuary earlier in season 8, and they have been on the move from the enemy since.

Father Gabriel saw it as his life's purpose to bring Dr. Carson to the Hilltop to attend to the pregnant Maggie (Lauren Cohan), who is carrying Glenn's (Steven Yeun) child. However, the Saviors eventually caught up to them, which sealed the good doctor's imminent death. The enemy killed Dr. Carson after he tried to get away again.

This is not the only time that The Walking Dead has killed off doctors. Apparently, the show follows the Harry Potter prophecy that states "neither can live while the other survives." In the J.K. Rowling series of the Boy Who Lived, this prediction applies to the antagonist Voldemort and the protagonist Harry Potter. On the show's case, however, it applies to the doctors: when one doctor lives, the other is a goner.

Doctors' Deaths

In the case of Dr. Carson, a fan pointed out that he was doomed from the moment newcomer Siddiq (Avi Nash) mentioned that he was a doctor in season 8 episode 9 "Honor." Denise Cloyd (Merritt Wever) died a few episodes after Harlan was introduced as a doctor in The Walking Dead Season 6, "Knots Untie"

"The instant Siddiq mentioned that he was a doctor, the first thing I thought was Dr. Carson is not long for this world, similar to how Denise was doomed when Dr. Carson was introduced to the show," the fan wrote.

Likewise, Dr. Emmett Carson (Tim Parati) also died after a few brief appearances in season 7. Emmett was initially the Savior's doctor. However, it turned out that they only used him as a means to bring his brother Harlan to become the Savior's new doctor.

Now, only Siddiq remains as the good doctor in The Walking Dead. According to fans' theory, there was a reason why Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) saved Siddiq in the first place. It was so he could serve as a doctor for Rick and his group.
