Avril Lavigne and her fiance, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, sparked rumors that they secretly wed after they invited friends to party like rock stars with them in the South of France.

According to multiple reports, the couple threw a lavish party on Saturday, June 29 in Cannes. After one of their invited guests, CEO Mike Heller, who works with Lavigne, wrote on Twitter, "I'm in south of France about to see my little Rok star #avril get married I am so happy to be part of this special celebration," his tweet went viral and was reported by Daily Mail

E! News reportedly also wrote that Lavigne wed on Saturday and that report has since been removed.

A rep for Lavigne told People that news that the rock stars wed is "not true."

A friend clarified the misunderstanding to Us Weekly revealing Heller never wrote "the wedding happened, just said he was on his way and excited for his friend," said the source.

The source told Us Weekly that the couple is "technically not married yet," and that the actual ceremony is scheduled for Monday, July 1. When it happens, it will be "extremely intimate, just close friends and family."

The couple revealed very little about their wedding plansduring an interview with Ryan Seacrest in April. Seacrest asked if they had selected a theme yet and Lavigne said it will be "quite spectacular" and "pretty big." She said her husband-to-be didn't know any of the plans for their nuptials yet.

People reported that Kroeger proposed to the Complicated singer on Aug. 8. The 38-year-old popped the question to the 28-year-old with a 14-carat diamond engagement ring. They shared the details in an exclusive interview in Hello! Canada in August, 2012.

The marriage to Lavigne will be Kroeger's first. This will be the second marriage for Lavigne. She filed for divorce from rock musician Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 in 2009 after three years of marriage and has also dated reality TV star Brody Jenner.
