The website Gawker obtained audio of an alleged Kanye West justifying his interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, ranting about not being asked to perform at the ceremony over Pink, and saying his mother, Donda West, "died for this fame."

The audio was recorded secretly while West was at dinner with friends after leaving Radio City Music Hall on the night of the 2009 VMAs (September 13, 2009), according to the website. The person in the video that is alleged to be West, starts his rant by addressing the moment he went on stage at the VMAs and grabbed Swift's microphone as she was about to give her acceptance speech for winning her first VMA award.

"You know, it's like, I was happy to be in a situation where people couldn't say, oh, I was trying to promote my own song. For the times that I've, like, defended myself... [Tape break] I'm pushing the envelope!"

He then defended himself even further by referencing his own music and the efforts he put in to write them. He said as long as he is alive, there will be no such thing as Swift beating Beyonce for an award.

"I wrote my f--king Run This Town verse for a fuckin' month! When I heard Eminem's verse on the Drake shit, I went back and rewrote my shit for two days," he said. "I canceled appointments to rewrite! I f--kin' care!...Because I did that, Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé. As long as I'm alive! And if I'm alive, kill me then!...Cause there ain't gonna be no more motherf--ing Elvises with no James Browns."

It is unconfirmed if the audio is in fact of West, the website noted.

A female asked him why he was so upset and the man alleged to be West responded, Because my mother got arrested for the f---in' sit-ins. My mother died for this fame s--t! I moved to fuckin' Hollywood chasing this s--t... F--k MTV."

He then talked about Pink's VMA performance, saying, "What the f--k was Pink performing? Don't nobody know that song."

"Pink performed twice! Two songs? How the f--k Pink perform two songs and I didn't even get asked to perform Heartless," he added. "Heartless is the biggest song of the year!"
