In a most appropriate casting choice, actress Christina Ricci has been slated to star in the Netflix series Wednesday, based on the high school years of Wednesday Addams.

If you recall, Ricci made her mark on Hollywood when she starred as the macabre pigtailed tween in the live action The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, which were based on the comic strip and television series. The films were critical successes at the time and breathed new (after)life into the creepy, kooky family. With her dour demeanor and quick wit, the young Ricci embodied the role to a T.

The new series, directed by Tim Burton, will follow an older Wednesday Addams as she becomes a sleuth of sorts at her new high school Nevermore Academy. The show will star Jenna Ortega as the titular character with Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia and Luis Guzman taking the role of Gomez.

The role going to Christina Ricci has yet to be announced, but according to Deadline she will be playing a new character, which is being kept hush-hush for the time being. This is also not the first time Ricci has worked with director Tim Burton. She starred in his 1999 retelling of Sleepy Hollow where she played Katrina Van Tassel, the love interest of Johnny Depp's Ichabod Crane.

It was also rumored by Deadline that Ricci was hired as Thora Birch had to exit the production due to a family illness which she had to attend to. It is thought that she will be playing a role similar to the one Birch was to play.

Wednesday has no release date as of yet.
