Actress Beanie Feldstein will be exiting her role on the Broadway version of Funny Girl even earlier than expected.

She announced the news on the night of July 10. According to an Instagram post, the show is going in a different direction than she anticipated:

"Playing Fanny Brice on Broadway has been a lifelong dream of mine and doing so for the last few months has been a great joy and true honor. Once the production decided to take the show in a different direction, I made the extremely difficult decision to step away sooner than anticipated.

"I will never forget this experience and from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every single person who came to the August Wilson...I hope you continue to join them on Henry Street after I depart on July 31st."

There is no news on what direction the show will be going, or who will be replacing Feldstein in the role of Fanny Brice.

The show did open to very mixed reviews, leading producers to say that both she and co-star Jane Lynch would be leaving the show on September 25th.

Another issue plaguing the production was the lack of box office numbers. As of July 3, the show was only pulling in 75% ticket sales.

Feldstein has missed several shows due to COVID lately, and it has been rumored that producers are considering Lea Michele to take over the role. The show's Twitter has said it will make an announcement about the change on Monday at 1 pm.
