One day after the release of his controversial song Control, Big Sean said that Kendrick Lamar stole his shine.

"I think that name dropping really took it over the top for sure," he told Rap-Up TV on Tuesday of the song that features Lamar and Jay Electronica.

On the track, Lamar crowns himself one of the best rappers in the game along with with Jay Z, Nas, Eminem and Andre 3000. He also negatively called out several other hip-hop artists, including J. Cole, Wale, Pusha T, Meek Millz, ASAP Rocky, Big KRIT, Drake, Tyler the Creator and Mac Miller. The Compton, Calif. native even added Big Sean and Jay Electronica to the list. "I'm trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you," he rapped about them. "They don't want to hear not one more noun or verb from you."

The lines garnered a lot of attention from the hip-hop community and infuriated rappers who were mentioned, as well as many who were not. For Big Sean, such controversy was refreshing.

"I haven't seen a hip-hop song stir up this much excitement in years really," he said. "It's cool that hip-hop can do that without it being violent the way it used to be."

The Hall of Fame rapper also said he recorded his verse prior to hearing Lamar's. After he heard it, however, he still kept his initial version.

Eminem In The Studio With Kendrick Lamar

"I wasn't gonna change my stuff for nothing. I didn't want to alter it," he said. "I knew how important it was and I just wanted to give it out there and orchestrate that and push the culture forward."

The controversial track was expected to appear on Big Sean's upcoming album, but due to a sampling clearance it won't be on Hall of Fame.

The record hits stores on Aug. 27.
