Legendary Pictures initially singed up to co-produce Man of Steel 2, however, the company will withdraw its stake in the film and will instead work on the upcoming film Interstellar.

The company's eight-year financing and co-production deal with Warner Bros. will end this year, before Warner starts production of Man of Steel 2. But to ensue the two companies continue to work together, Legendary will work on Interstellar, a film Warner is producing with Paramount Pictures.

Christopher Nolan, who most notably directed the Batman trilogy--Batman Begins, The Dark Night and The Dark Night Rises--will direct Interstellar. The movie explores time travel and is currently being filmed in Alberta, Canada. It will be released on Nov. 7, 2014 and stars Jessica Chastain, Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Ellen Burstyn and Michael Caine.

Legendary and Warner have produced several hit films since 2005, including 300, Inception, The Hangover trilogy, The Town, Superman Returns and the aforementioned Batman trilogy.

Enstarz recently reported that Warner allegedly offered actor Christian Bale, the star of all three Batman films, $50 million to reprise his role in the tentatively titled Man of Steel 2: Batman vs. Superman film.

The report came from the UK Press Association. It arose from a passage in a new book by Vincent Russel, titled Beyond Batman: The Unauthorised True Story of Christian Bale and His Dark Knight Dilemma. In the book, a source from Legendary Pictures, which partnered with Warner on Nolan's films, is quoted as saying the studio is willing to shell out a lot of money to acquire Bale's services.
