Lady Gaga tweeted pictures from her rehearsal at the Barclay's Center for the 2013 Video Music Awards on Aug. 23 and in an interview published that day she talked about her opening performance and the press pitting her against Katy Perry.

Gaga will be opening the VMAs with the live debut of her latest song Applause, the first single to release off of her upcoming album Artpop. She tweeted two black and white images from the rehearsal on Friday night. In one image she posed with her dance crew.

When asked what fans can expect from her VMA performance in a Just Jared interview, she said the following:

"You can't really expect anything. I'm always trying to create something that the fans won't expect. It's definitely the most physically demanding performance I've ever done. It requires a lot of planning and rehearsal. I'm glad to just be back on stage and be able to perform for everybody."

Brooklyn's Barclays center, which is the venue for the MTV VMAs this year, announced on Aug. 22 via Twitter that Gaga and Katy Perry will be seated next to each other at the show on Sunday. Perry and Gaga are considered arch rivals on the charts with their brand new singles Roar and Applause respectively

Gaga also spoke about the media pitting her against Perry in the interview.

"The press really loves to pit women against each other," she said. "It's just stories - entertainment for people to sell. Do we both wish that they would focus more on the music and what we have to offer as artists? Sure, but that's just the nature of the business."

The VMAs will air on Sunday, from 9-11 p.m. ET.
