Katy Perry took her MTV Video Music Awards performance to the Brooklyn Bridge in order to close out Sunday night's Awards.

Hidden beneath a boxer's robe, Perry slowly made her way to the Bridge throughout the VMA broadcast. As the Awards wrapped up, MTV threw their feed over to Perry as she took her seat in the corner of a boxing ring.

With the lights of one of New York's iconic bridges behind her, the 28-year-old performed her new single live for the first time ever.

"She was supposed to perform on top of the Brooklyn Bridge but the city wouldn't give her the permit," and insider told Us Weekly.

Even though Perry was planted firmly on the ground, her performance still did her greatest hit justice.

Released on Aug. 12, Roar quickly took radio stations by storm, outplaying and outselling Lady Gaga's simultaneously debuted Applause. Pulled from Perry's upcoming Prism, the single reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In addition to Roar, Perry released two snippets from her upcoming singles Dark Horse and Walking on Air on Sunday in advance of her VMA appearance.

Slated to drop on Oct. 22 via Capitol Records, Prism will be the pop stars first full-length album since 2010's Teenage Dream.
