Despite the recent announcement that Dr. Luke would be joining the American Idol judging team, reports now state that he will be backing out of the deal.

Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, has made a name for himself as both a musician and a producer. Having worked on such hits as Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone," Pink's "Who Knew," and Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl," Gottwald would have brought extensive knowledge of the music industry to the Idol judges' panel.

Could American Idol Bring Back Alum Judges?

Unfortunately, it appears that the artist won't appear on the Fox show when it returns in January. Gottwald is currently working with Sony Music with his Kemosabe label, according to The Hollywood Reporter. With such acts as Bonnie Mckee and Juciy J, his label affiliations are in direct conflict with Idol since working with the competition would lead to Dr. Luke developing talent for Sony's rival, Universal.

Sources also claim that Gottwald felt that the commitment would leave him with too little time to work on other pursuits, such as his label.

"He really loves his artists and wants to build up the label," a source told The Hollywood Reporter.
