Gold-Plated Lamborghini PHOTOS: Record-Breaking One-of-a-Kind Car Valued at $7.5 Million
Lamborghini will be auctioning off a car that, while still in the concept phase, will be the most expensive of its fleet of cars.
The auction, set to occur in Dubai, is for a custom-made vehicle that will be worth $7.5 million. The custom prototype is currently on display in Dubai, and was crafted at a 1:8 scale by renowned German scale model builder Robert Gulpen.
According to The Christian Science Monitor, the finished model will contain 55 pounds of solid gold, and the precious metals and gemstones adorning the car are valued at $2.64 million alone.
The model was originally brought to the public in 2011, when Gulpen initially announced he wanted to create the world's most expensive car. Lamborghini signed on by directly supporting the project soon after.
Whoever wins at the auction has the ability to customize the vehicle however they wish, using any number of materials, including gemstones, other precious metals, and the usual materials put into building cars like rubber for the wheels and glass for the windows.
Gulpen intends to have $650,000 of the total $7.5 million donated to a charity. He also intends to break three Guinness World Records with the finished model: the most expensive model, the most secure container and show case, and the most expensive Lamborghini logo.
The average price of Lamborghinis generally fall in the $400,000 range, making the new model, once it is built, a whopping near 19 times more expensive than the current vehicles available to the public.
