Actor Zac Efron completed a stint in rehab about five months ago reportedly to battle substance addiction.

TMZ cited a number of unnamed sources revealing that Efron went to rehab to battle a serious addiction to cocaine that spiraled out of control when he was filming The Neighbors. The insiders also claimed that Efron dabbled with Molly, the pure-form ecstasy drug that has been in the media lately for increased popularity at parties and clubs. The substance has also be mentioned in songs by several artists, including fellow Disney alum Miley Cyrus' We Can't Stop

The New York Daily News reports that the 25-year-old often wouldn't show up for work on the film, where he plays the head of a fraternity house.

"It was common knowledge he was struggling with cocaine," a source told the newspaper.

A different insider told People that Efron is now "doing great" and "taking care of himself." The actor was recently spotted on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival where he was promoting his project Parkland, a drama about the Kennedy assassination.

Efron told USA Today he is very excited about the film.

"It's really a surreal experience for me, " he explained. "It feels very mature and really interesting. It's a whole different kind of filmmaking and I feel blessed to have been a part of it.".

Efron broke onto the scene in 2006 as a star in the Disney Channel movie High School Musical, which went on to spur two more films. High School Musical 3: Senior Year was released in theaters worldwide in 2008. The actor has kept incredibly busy since then, starring in movies such as 17 Again, Charlie St. Cloud, New Year's Eve, The Lorax and The Lucky One. After Parkland, he can be seen in next year's Neighbors, Autobahn and Are We Officially Dating?
