Tragedy struck in southern California on Sunday as a business jet crashed into a hangar at Santa Monica Airport with nobody reported to have survived the ordeal.

However, authorities have still yet to determine how many people were on the plane.

According to CNN, the jet went off the right side of the runway after landing at 6:20 p.m. Pacific Time, stated Ian Gregor, the spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration.

Once the hangar gave way, it was too unstable for firefighters to even enter, stated Captain John Nevandro of the Santa Monica Fire Department.

"It was an unsurvivable crash," explained Nevandro.

Charles Thomson witnessed the deadly accident, even hearing one of the tires popping.

"It wasn't an emergency landing. It was just a landing, and the tire popped afterwards," he said.

The jet had intially lifted off from Hailey, Idaho, which is considered a hot-spot for vacation homes.

The National Transportation Safety Board investigators came to the scene on Sunday night. However, they didn't anticipate being able to get to the twin-engine Cessna Citation until Monday.

Different models of the plane can carry anywhere from seven to nine passengers at a time, according to the manufacturer's site.
