Shakira's 9-month-old son Milan is growing up fast!

The Loca singer, 36, and her partner/soccer player Gerard Pique, 26, welcomed their first on Jan. 22 in Barcelona, Spain. The baby weighed in at 6 pounds, 6 ounces. Shortly after the child's birthday, Shakira took to Twitter to explain her son's name.

"The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification," the Columbian wrote.

Shakira and Pique dated for around two years before she got pregnant. She confirmed their relationship in 2012 by posting a picture of them together on Twitter and Facebook with a caption reading, "I present to you my sunshine' in Spanish," according to Daily Mail. The singer previously said he is the "best thing" to ever happen to her, until she started expecting.

"This man is the best thing that could have happened in my life. And now the baby!" she reportedly said.

Four months after giving birth Milan, Shakira became a mentor on the singing competition The Voice, replacing Christina Aguilera in season 4.

Shakira spoke about being a mother in the July 2013 issue of Elle.

"Some people put it like it's very idyllic, some people put it like it's a torturing experience, but it's not quite one thing or the other. It's like life -- it comes with everything,"  the Hips Don't Lie singer said.

She spoke about her relationship with Pique in the same magazine edition. Shakira said being with the athlete has given her a new connection with her faith. To her, God's existence could only be proven through love and missing that love turned her slightly agnostic. Describing why she loves Pique, it came down to them genuinely being bonded by their love.

"I know that he's the one person who is with me not because of any interest other than the love than unites us," she said about her boyfriend. "There's nothing I can offer him beyond my womanhood -- does that word exist in English?"
