Paul McCartney 'New' Album 2013 Times Square Concert VIDEOS & PHOTOS: Shocks Thousands, Tells Students, "You Rock On"
Beatles singer Paul McCartney surprised New Yorkers and tourists with a concert in the Big Apple to promote his upcoming album, New, Thursday afternoon.
Thousands gathered as he performed four songs on a stage inside of a tractor trailer that pulled up in the heart of Times Square on the corner of 46th Street and Broadway. He stuck to songs featured on his new project including Save Us and Everybody Out There. Even though he opted out of singing any Beatles and Wings hits, McCartney appeared to enjoy himself and the crowd seemed to love his new material.
The 71 year-old music legend told the crowd, "Well this is something nice isn't it? Let's stay here all day."
ABC News reported that this happened just one day after he performed at Frank Sinatra High School in Queens to celebrate his second wedding anniversary with wife, Nancy. For this performance, he sung 13 songs including Beatles hits including Hey Jude and Eight Days a Week. He also had a Q&A session with the students.
One student asked when he knew he officially "made it" in the music industry. McCartney responded his moment was when the Beatles recorded their very first song, Love Me Do.
When the students cheered he joked and said, "You shouldn't know about that."
A sophomore student asked what motivates him to stay in the music business after so long.
McCartney then revealed that people often ask him "Can you just retire?" In which he tells them, "Thank you very much. No."
He left on an inspiring note for the arts students and said, "You rock on. You be great."
