The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced this year's nominees list and several iconic rock groups are up for consideration for the first time this year.

Nirvana is being nominated for the first time -- 25 years after the release of their debut album, 1989's Bleach. Other music icons named to be nominated include Hall & Oats, Peter Gabriel, Linda Ronstadt and Yes.

There are several artists that are being nominated again-- The Meters, Chic, Deep Purple, The Meters, LL Cool J and N.W.A.

"This year's nominees represent the broad definition of 'rock 'n' roll' and include an array of artists whose fans are deeply passionate about the possibility of induction," says Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Fans of the music artists can vote for the second time this year. Votes can be submitted through Dec. 10 at Rollingstone and the official Rock Hall website.

The five artists that land the most votes from fans' ballots will become the inductees for 2014.

After the inductees have been selected, The Rock Hall's voting group of almost 600 music industry professionals including music artists and historians, will then vote on those chosen. The artists who receive the most votes from that voting body will be inducted in New York City on April 10, 2014. The induction ceremony will air on HBO at a later time next year.
