Starting off the season strong with a shootout victory against the New Jersey Devils, the Islanders later crushed the Phoenix Coyotes to the tune of 6-1 and took down the Edmonton Oilers last Thursday. However, the New York team enters tonight's home match after suffering losses to the Chicago Blackhawks, the Nashville Predators, and the Buffalo Sabers, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Currently in third for the Metropolitan Division, the Islanders have eight points, according to ESPN.
Coming into tonight's game, the Vancouver Canucks are 5-4-1. Starting off the season with a loss to the San Jose Sharks, the Canucks went on to beat the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and New Jersey Devils before being crushed by the Sharks once more. After a defeat at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens, the Canucks scored two more wins against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Buffalo Sabers before falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Vancouver is currently in fifth place for the Pacific Division with 11 points, according to ESPN.
