Boxing star Manny Pacquiao blasted President Barack Obama's view on same sex marriage in an interview with The National Conservative Examiner.

Pacquiao told the paper he believes Obama's support for gay marriage is nothing more than a direct attack on the moral society and against the will of God.

"God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other," Pacquiao told the paper.

"It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old," he added.

Pacquiao was named the fourth most influential athlete by Forbes magazine. He is also regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

Pacquiao is also Congressman in the Philippines and has said before that he plans to become a Christian evangelist.

Obama became the first sitting President of the United States to support gay marriage last week during an interview with ABC News.

When he made his announcement, some celebrities raved about the President's stand including Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres and Justin Timberlake.

They claimed Obama was being "brave" and that it meant a "step in the direction of equal rights," among other things.

"Barack Obama inspires me once again. True leadership is when you are willing to risk your power and voice so that ALL of ours can be heard," Justin Timberlake said on his Twitter.
