Before Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters in summer 2014 as the 10th installment of the Marvel Universe, lead star Chris Pratt and director James Gunn let fans know what they can expect from the sci-fim film.

"If The Avengers are The Beatles, these guys are The Rolling Stones," said Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn in an interview reportedly published in the latest issue of Empire Magazine.

Chris Pratt, who plays lead protagonist Peter Quill, and Gunn said the heroes of the up-and-coming Marvel installation will be more of anti-heroes.

"Our characters are basically all villains to begin with," Gunn added. "They don't believe they're individually good and they don't believe each other is good, and through the course of the movie they discover they're heroes."

At the 2013 Comic-Con, Pratt described his character saying, "He had a hard time as a kid, and now he goes around space, making out with hot alien girls and just being a rogue and a bit of a jerk."

As to what type of sci-fi deep space movie fans are going to get, Pratt said, "It's not as broad as Galaxy Quest but it's not a straightforward space fantasy like Star Wars. I think it's the sort of the best of both of those films put together...and more!"

The film's all-star cast include Vin Diesel, Glenn Close and Riley Cooper. The film's official synopsis in part read as follows:

"Brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits-Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters Aug. 1, 2014.
