As one familiar face prepares to leave Weatherfield behind, another shocking face is set to appear in town on Coronation Street.

Tina (Michelle Keegan) is having a hard time with the fact that Peter (Chris Gascoyne) has no intentions of leaving his wife, Carla (Alison King). To guarantee her some distance from the situation and a chance to make a clean break, she plans an escape to London.

Coronation Street: Monday, Dec. 30, 2013

Keegan opened up about her character's emotional decision to Radio Times, explaining how it feels like the only thing she is capable of doing at this point.

"She can't be around him anymore," she said. "She has no control over her feelings for him-it's so upsetting to want someone she can't have. Going to London seems like the only rational thing to do."

Tina isn't the only person in town who is having a hard time, however. Kylie's (Paula Lane) spiraling out of control by way of drinking too much because she can't handle David (Jack P. Sheperd) being back in the family fold.

As she cracks open a bottle of wine while watching after Max and Lily, she passes out and is unavailable when Max gets hungry and tries to cook. The potentially dangerous situation is stopped when David shows up and confronts his estranged wife over her child endangering behavior.

The potential tragedy could spring new hope for the couple. Lane said Radio Times there could be hope for the young couple.

"She's very distressed and tells him that she doesn't have the confidence to make the relationship work and that she's worried that it's going to be a disaster," she said. "She's been completely rocked by everything but he's brilliant with her and brings her back round. It makes her realize what she's been missing."
