It's been awhile since we heard from American Idol's Clay Aiken since he was the show's second season runner-up,  but if a report in The Washington Blade. is true, he's now running for Congress.

The 35-year-old wants to be a congressman for the 2nd District in North Carolina. He's making moves for it to happen and has been calling bigwig politicians and strategists around the state like Betsy Conti, who has worked for presidential nominee Al Gore, to guarantee he's got the support he needs.

The Invisible singer hasn't announced his campaign yet, but one source told the newspaper that he's "actively considering" it and is even "sounding and acting like a candidate."

Since placing second in American Idol more than 10 years ago, Aiken has earned $1.5 million in 2010 after writing a New York Times Bestseller, Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music In Your Life and starring in Spamalot on Broadway. He also sold more than six million copies of his albums.

The openly gay singer has also used his platform to lead LGBT activisms since coming out in 2008 in People magazine.

He told the publication, "Like many kids now in middle schools and high schools, I was bullied. I was picked on...Fortunately, I was able to overcome it and live through it because of a number off friends who were supportive of me...It was the first decision I made as a father," said Aiken who posed on the cover with his son who was a just a baby at the time, Parker Foster Aiken.

Still, many question whether Aiken has the star power to not only run as a Democratic candidate, but win.

Many reacted to the news of Aiken's possible campaign on Twitter.

One user wrote, "Clay Aiken should never ever run for Congress."

Another joked, "Clay Aiken is running for Congress. The United States is about to be saved. #Merica."

A third follower wrote, "The thought of Clay Aiken running for Congress in NC makes my stomach hurt."
