Modern Family's Ariel Winter had a rough start to 2013, but the teenage actress took to Twitter to thanks those who helped her turn things around.

The 15-year-old actress accused her mother, Chrisoula Workman, of emotional abuse in the fall of 2012 and Workman lost custody, a decision which resulted in the youngsters continued stay with her sister, Shanelle Gray, according to the Christian Post Los Angeles Times.

Winter expressed gratitude toward her older sister, her brother-in-law, and her two small nieces in a lengthy Instagram post last week.

"I would just like to say... I am so lucky to be a part of this amazing family," Winter wrote alongside a collage of photos with the Grays. "It's been about a year and a half and at the same time, been the best year and a half of my life. I love them more than I could ever describe and they've shown me more love than I ever thought was possible. They've each given me something incredible to carry with me for the rest of my life. They've taught me how to love unconditionally, how to give, how to forgive, how to find strength, how to comfort others, how to love myself, and how to be a young woman."

Winter, who has won two Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Young Artist Award for her work as TV's Alex Dunphy, finished out her note by thanking her newfound family before hoping for a good life with them.

Winter can be seen on ABC's Modern Family, which airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
