Trouble is ahead for happy couple Marcus (Charlie Condou) and Maria (Samia Ghadie) on Coronation Street, and it goes by the name of Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley).

Coronation Street: Friday, Jan. 3, 2014

While celebrating his birthday with his family, Todd will make his feelings about Marcus very clear when he strips off his shirt to model the new gift he has received from Sean (Antony Cotton), and later corners Marcus to let him know the move was for his benefit.

However, when he tries to completely seduce Marcus with a kiss, he is caught by his mother Eileen (Sue Cleaver). She reprimands him and he will begrudgingly apologize, but his efforts to get the man he desires may not go away any time soon.

In a Jan. 7 interview with Radio Times, Charlie Condou explained how Todd's affections for Marcus would likely affect his relationship with Maria. The actor also teased how it would set him up for his exit from the soap opera over the summer.

"There's something about Todd that draws Marcus to him," Condou said. "He knows he's bad for him but he can't keep away. He's determined to make it work with Maria, but the seed's been planted."

"He's [Todd] certainly going to cause big problems for them [Marcus and Maria] in the future because Todd's like a dog with a bone and when he wants something he won't let go," Condou added. "He knows what he wants and he's going to get it."

Condou previously announced his intentions to leave the soap in November.

Other citizens of Weatherfield will have some potential romance news of their own, as Kal (Jimi Mistry) catches Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) eyeing up Stella (Michelle Collins) and encourages him to go for it. Though he is initially shy, Dev will feel encouraged after Stella compliments him on trim he's gotten since beginning his training sessions with Kal.

Romance is not in the air for everyone and several characters are set to experience heartbreak and tension.

Eileen is having a hard time with Tony's (Terence Maynard) arrival back in town and she will be extremely disappointed when he arrives late for Todd's birthday dinner. Her attentions will eventually be re-focused on her troublemaking son when she catches him trying to hit on Marcus.

Owen (Ian Puleston-Davis) and Anna (Debbie Rush) will go ahead with Owen's business deal with Phelan (Connor McIntyre), a move that could later prove catastrophic for the two.

It is also nearly Hayley's (Julie Hesmondhalgh) time to say goodbye, but her friends are going to rally to make sure her final days are as memorable for her as possible. First, Tyrone (Alan Halsall) and Fiz (Jennifer McAlpine) will travel to Suffolk to get her the strawberries she likes, and the act will soon be followed by the kindness of Mary (Patti Clare) and other residents, when they turn the fruit into jam for her.
