The Blacklist has revealed very little about Raymond "Red" Reddington's past, but an upcoming criminal-of-the-week may be able to shed some light on one of Red's past relationships.

Set to appear in episode 13, which is titled "The Katana #99," Madeline Pope will be the second female blacklister of the season. While she undoubtedly has a lengthy criminal résumé, a recent spoiler from TV Line implies that she had some form of romantic relationship with Red (James Spader).

This possible liaison is not the only morsel of history viewers will find out about the informant during the second half of the season.

"I will tell you that there are answers that we will be giving about... how do I delicately state this... we will be answering things about both Red's family and about his background," said executive producer Jon Bokenkamp, according to The Wall Street Journal. "One of the interesting things to me is getting to know who Red is in a better capacity."

However, Bokenkamp admits the series cannot roll out all the answers quickly. The Blacklist relies on an element of serialization but also needs to balance that out with a more episodic format, much like CBS's The Mentalist.

"We always talked about this being a 70-30 split," Bokenkamp told The Wall Street Journal. "We're still trying to find the right mix of serialized and case-of-the-week storytelling. What's special about this is we have the ability to do both."

The Blacklist airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. Click the video below to see a preview for next week's "The Alchemist."
