The tragic storyline on Bones involving Wendell (Michael Grant Terry) and his cancer diagnosis will be explored again in season 9.

Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan spoke with Give Me My Remote this week regarding Wendell's new storyline, revealing what the producers intend to do with the squintern.

"We're going to see him at least one more time this year, and we're going to see his situation progress," Nathan said. "Not only the treatment, but the disease. But as we saw at the end of the episode, we saw he made the decision to fight it, which was a very difficult decision. His story will continue. It probably won't be resolved this year."

Nathan admitted that he and his fellow producers don't even know how Wendell's story will end, despite having a general idea of what this will mean to him.

"How it eventually resolves is still up in the air, but we know what we want this to mean for Wendell," he said. "We know where it's going, but the ultimate resolution of that is still up in the air."

In the latest episode, Big in the Philippines, Wendell was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer that is often fatal. Wendell resolved to fight the cancer all the way through after encouragement from Booth (David Boreanaz).

As there are current negotiations for a 10th season of Bones, Wendell's storyline may extend into next year.
