Creflo Dollar Arrested: Pastor Denies Physical Altercation As He Preaches
The 50-year old megachurch pastor Creflo Dollar Jr. who had been arrested for allegedly attacking his daughter on Friday appeared at the pulpit on Sunday morning and denied the accusations. He addressed the congregation at his World Changers Church in Atlanta and said: "I will say this emphatically. I should have never been arrested."
He continued, saying: "All is well in the Dollar household. The truth is that a family conversation with our youngest daughter got emotional, emotions got involved and things escalated from there."
The pastor was arrested for allegedly attacking his 15-year-old daughter. His daughter called cops herself, reporting that she had been punched and choked by her own father, who now faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children.
Dollar was arrested and taken to Fayette County Jail. He was released on a $5,000 bond. He alleges that they had been arguing about whether she could attend a party, which he would not let her go to.
As he was leaving jail, Dollar reportedly said: "I just love my kid. Love 'em. Same problem every parent's going through," according to WSBTV.com
A police report states that Dollar tried to restrain his daughter, who then began to hit back, leading to him tackling her to the ground and spanking her. She then went to the kitchen, called 911, and started crying. When she told him that she did not want to talk, he allegedly put his hands around her throat and punched her.
Dollar's 19-year-old daughter also confirmed the turn of events but his wife said she did not witness the altercation.
However, Dollar denies that the altercation between him and his daughter turned physical and told his congregants: "I can imagine ... if I punched my kid, it would hurt her. If I choked my kid, you would see visible signs on her neck. But to come and take a picture of a mark that's been there for 10 years and not have enough intelligence to at least ask the parent what it is, is appalling."
Creflo's church has a congregation of nearly 30,000 members. His services are broadcast across the country every week.
According to Creflo Dollar Ministries website, Dollar received the vision for World Changers Ministries Christian Center in 1986. He held the church's first worship service in the cafeteria of Kathleen Mitchell Elementary School in College Park, with only eight people in attendance.
"Over the years, the ministry grew rapidly, and was later renamed World Changers Church International. The congregation moved from the cafeteria to a modest-sized chapel, later adding a weekly radio broadcast and four services each Sunday. On December 24, 1995, WCCI moved into its present location-the 8,500-seat sanctuary known as the World Dome. At a cost of nearly $18 million, the World Dome was built without any bank financing. The construction of the World Dome is a testament to the miracle-working power of God, and remains a model of debt-freedom that ministries all over the world emulate."
