Coming out of yesterday's second heat, The United States was poised to take home gold and bronze medals in the sport, with Canada poised for silver. In first, Team USA's Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams had a new start record of 57.63, with a total run time on the track of 1:54.89. They were followed in second by Canada's Kallie Humphries and Heather Moyse with a total run time of 1:55.12, and fellow Team USA competitors Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans with a time of 1:55.45.
Heat 3 will see the team of Meyers and Williams starting off, followed by Humphries and Moyse and Greubel and Evans.
Should the three top teams medal, it would be a repeat win for Humphries and Moyse, though they won the gold medal in 2010's games in Vancouver. It would also be a repeat medal win for Meyers for Team USA, though she won Bronze in 2010 with Erin Pac.
Less likely to have a chance at medaling as of the start of Heat 3 are Team USA's third set of competitors, Jazmine Fenlator and Lolo Jones, who are ranked in 11th.
