Peter Capaldi has only just stepped into the Doctor's shoes and already rumors are flying that the newest Time Lord will soon depart Doctor Who.

'Doctor Who' Season 8 Premiere Slated For Summer? Find Out How This Could Effect The Christmas Special

Reported by the Mirror, the idea that Capadli may shoot through after one season has many viewers questioning why he was cast in the first place.

Bearing in mind that the alleged departure is currently mere speculation, departing Who after just 13 episodes does have a precedent. Christopher Eccleston helped to launch the 2005 reboot before quickly regenerating in the "Parting of the Ways" Christmas Special. However, Eccleston's departure was not something that had been decided after filming only two episodes.

Are Danny & Clara An Item On 'Doctor Who'? New Set Footage Hints At Samuel Anderson's Character's Involvement

Other fans are wondering when Doctor Who will announce Capaldi's replacement if he really is already considering leaving. If the series has already cast a new regeneration, it is unlikely that the public will know until the late summer or even the fall (Capaldi was announced in August) since the new Time Lord would not appear until the Christmas Special.

In the meantime, however, Whovians have enough true news to occupy themselves with. The Twelfth Doctor and Clara (Jenna Louis Coleman) may be picking up a second companion when Danny Pink (Samuel Anderson) enters the mix. Considering Anderson will be a regular, it seems very likely that the schoolteacher will be spending a bit of time in the TARDIS.

Doctor Who will return for its eighth season later this year. Click the video below to see Capaldi, Coleman, and Anderson filming in Cardiff Bay.
