Someone will head to prison for shooting A.J. (Sean Kanaan) but it won't be his actual assailant Ava (Maura West) who pays for the crime on General Hospital.

Ava Shoots A.J.

Ava shot A.J. after he confronted her with the truth about the night Connie Falconeri died. Sonny (Maurice Bernard), who Ava recently aligned with in the mob war, headed to Ava's apartment when he learned A.J. was there, potentially because he felt A.J. was a threat, because it is still widely believed he was responsible for Connie's death. When he arrived however, he found A.J. on the floor, and Ava holding the gun.

In a preview clip for the Wednesday, March 5 episode, he will be checking A.J. for a pulse as Ava watches on and wonders aloud if she killed him.

Ric Lansing Returns?

"Sonny, is he dead?" she asked.

Even if A.J. is not dead, Sonny could be convinced to believe Ava shot him in self-defense, as he is convinced that she is now his ally, and no one knows she had anything to do with Connie. Because of this, he could consider taking the fall for Ava, and will wind up behind bars for her crime.

The news of an attack on A.J. prior to this had spread through Port Charles, and Sonny's son Michael (Chad Duell) is worried about his father's reputation since most people in town would believe Sonny responsible for an attack on the man who supposedly killed the love of Sonny's life.

"Dad, I need to know you're okay. Call me," Michael said as he tried calling Sonny to find out where he was.

Meanwhile, Sonny's recently returned half-brother Ric (Rick Hearst) is making the rounds and visiting his ex-wives, including Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), though his true intentions for being back in town could be revealed if he is the person Julian Jerome (Michael DeVry) secretly meets up with to discuss business.

"You took a big chance coming back to Port Charles," Julian said in the clip.

General Hospital airs Monday-Friday at 2 p.m. on ABC.
