There will be a new character on Game of Thrones in season 4 that fearlessly goes up against the Lannisters, making himself known as dangerous.

Sam "Butts Heads" With Jon Snow?

Oberyn Martell, a.k.a. The Red Viper (guest star Pedro Pascal) will arrive in King's Landing when Game of Thrones premieres its fourth season in April and immediately set himself up as a force to be reckoned with. Oberyn arrives for the wedding of King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and Margaery (Natalie Dormer), but his stay will extend well beyond that.

Oberyn has also come to King's Landing to enact some revenge on the Lannisters, who he blames for murdering numerous members of his family.

"Purple Wedding" Set To Occur in Episode 2?

Pascal recently spoke with Zap2It about Oberyn and where the character gets his fearlessness.

"It could very well be the tragedy of when and how he lost his sister and niece and nephew that basically set the stage for him to live a life of no consequences, or it's kind of the major ingredient that was added to a character who was already bare in his soul, which is a lover and a fighter," Pascal explained to Zap2It. "I understood the way that tragedy can shape an agenda, and how much of a focal point the goal that was born from a particular tragedy can be. How totally driven by one thing he is, and how it also sort of branches itself out into how he lives his life."

Pascal further explained that Oberyn is a character who is one of the first to really face off against the Lannisters.

"I would say Oberyn is the only one who does not fear the consequence of coming up against the most powerful people in the land," he said. "He is the only who doesn't fear them. That's what makes him such a wild card. That's what makes him so dangerous."

Game of Thrones season 4 premieres Sunday, April 6 at 9 p.m. on HBO.
