Fans of How I Met Your Mother could potentially see their favorite characters on screen once again if the planned spin-off show How I Met Your Dad is given a series pick-up from CBS.

Meg Ryan Cast For 'HIMYM' Spin-Off

While out in Brentwood on April 30, TMZ reporters caught up with Alyson Hannigan, who portrayed Lily Aldrin for all nine seasons of the series. Though she maintained that none of the cast from the original series would be involved with the new show, there could still be hope that they may come back if the show is picked up.

"I guess they're waiting to see, but none of us are involved, none of the actors," she said.

Though they have all insisted they wouldn't return in the new show, which is supposed to be set in an entirely different bubble of New York City life, if the show is picked up and becomes as successful as How I Met Your Mother, the cast could consider minor cameo appearances.

Hannigan also addressed the disappointment fans had with the series finale of HIMYM, saying that several pivotal scenes were cut out so the show would fit its time allotment, which made the story feel more "rushed" for her.

"I wish that they could have aired everything," she said. "There was a funeral scene that was pretty gut-wrenching...they had to cut a lot of stuff out.

"I feel like the end went by too quickly, there were scenes between Robin and Ted that would have really helped it not feel so sudden," she added.

How I Met Your Dad has not yet been picked up for CBS' fall lineup.
