Since the recent title change of the last in the trilogy of The Hobbit from There and Back Again to The Battle of Five Armies, the movie has come under some heat and also given the wrong signal to some fans about the scope of change at this point in filming.

Plot to Change, Take Detour from Book and Keep Oakenshield Alive?

Some publications are viewing the change as a sign of indecision and confusion on the part of the captain of the ship, Peter Jackson. 

The International Digital Times suggests that the title change only cements the concern about what direction Jackson is taking the film in:

"After all, the news we've gotten about it is pretty troubling, most significantly its change of title, which I believe is strong evidence that Peter Jackson is going to continue the wrongheaded approach that has characterized the trilogy so far."

More recently fans seem to have taken the title change as a possibility for all kinds of changes and recently signed a petition requesting that the The Hobbit: Part 3 take a detour from Tolkien's book.

Third Film Title Registered Amid Peter Jackson Announcing New Title for There and Back Again?  

While fans and critics might be confused or not be as happy about the change in title, the film's cast stands by Jackson's decision. Recently Luke Evans also suggested that the decision made sense.

The director announced that he had retitled the film, whic will now be called The Battle of the Five Armies, via his Facebook page on April 24.

He expressed his reasons for making the change:

"There and Back Again felt like the right name for the second of a two films telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo's arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film," wrote Jackson. "But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced - after all, Bilbo has already arrived 'there' in the Desolation of Smaug."
