Castle fans were shocked by the final moments of Monday night's season 6 finale, which found its main character in a compromising position.

Castle Finale Details

The wedding of Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) seemed to be a go despite a series of obstacles along the way. Beckett was finally ready to marry her longtime partner. But then, Beckett got a call at the wedding. She was then seen running down the street where it was revealed that Castle's car in shambles, with an SUV as the apparent cause. With Castle's car in flames, his status on the show was officially put in question as season 6 ended.

Despite this horrifying ending, Castle creator Andrew W. Marlowe spoke with TVLine after the episode and confirmed that Fillion would in fact be back for season 7.

Beckett Makes Costly Mistake?

When asked if this was a situation where they were going to "reconstruct" Castle with a new actor in season 7, Marlowe dismissed the idea, laughing.

"No, I don't think we can quite "Doctor Who" Castle. Yeah, Nathan is signed on for Season 7."

Several fans have expressed their outrage at the ending, with some even claiming that they would stop watching the show. Marlowe is fully prepared for fan outrage, but he is teasing that there is a lot to look forward to for season 7.

"We're actually very excited about where we're going next season, and this helps set up some of the elements that we're going to be dealing with coming back," he said. "We felt like it was an interesting way to end it, in a way that people will want to know what happened, what's going on. We know that it's a bit of an emotional blow to the audience but oftentimes good storytelling is. With the mythology that we're introducing, we want to start it off with a bang. We're just sorry that the audience has to wait until September to see how we're going to resolve it."

He added that fan trust in them will "hopefully" be well-deserved in the long run.

Castle is slated to return for season 7 in fall 2014 on ABC. A specific premiere date has not yet been determined.
