The dramatic cliffhanger featured at the end of Castle's season 6 finale has been very divisive among fans, but there is new speculation on what caused the big car crash.

Main Character's Future In Question After Car Crash Cliffhanger In Finale?

As Beckett (Stana Katic) waited for her partner and soon-to-be husband Castle (Nathan Fillion) to arrive at their wedding, she received one of the worst calls imaginable. Viewers saw Beckett running down the street in her wedding dress as she witnessed Castle's car engulfed in flames and seemingly driven off the road by an SUV.

While there are many culprits who could have done this to him, Castle creator Andrew W. Marlowe is ruling out one possibility: Bracken (Jack Coleman).

"I think that aspect of the mythology is closed now," Marlowe told TVGuide.com. "Beckett knows who killed her mother. If there's further storytelling there, I think we're going to be breaking new ground."

The report also suggested that fans who desperately wanted to see the wedding of Castle and Beckett could see it happen in Season 7.

When asked about a fresh budget for season 7, Marlowe said, "That's right. We were running on fumes, financially, at the end of this year."

Castle is slated to return for another full season this fall and fans will be glad to know that Fillion is slated to come back for it. The titular character will make it out alive.

Castle season 7 returns in fall 2014 on ABC in the same Mondays at 10 p.m. timeslot.
