After The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug's wily dragon gave audiences quite the scare, Godzilla seems to have stepped into the competition and in a recent showdown a winner was declared.

The Hobbit Part 3 Plot To Change, Take Detour From Book And Keep Oakenshield Alive?

The Wall Street Journal pitted the two dragons against each other in a pretty detailed analysis, which took everything from strength to intelligence and destructability to manipulativeness into consideration.

Here's an excerpt from the reasoning given for Godzilla's win:

"Between Smaug and Godzilla, there's no contest. ... Godzilla gets nuked and only grows stronger from it. Cumberbatch not only voiced the fictional dragon in the The Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug, but tried to embody the character as well.

The actor told Vulture that he asked director Peter Jackson if he could be involved in motion-capture, where he could simulate the dragon's movements during filming and have it mimicked on screen rather than merely providing a voice-over for the deadly creature.

The final part of the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, will release on December 18.
