Though just last week their relationship appeared to be on solid ground, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes seem to be hinting that they are once again on-the-outs, and may have possibly broken up.

Ryan Gosling Flies To Cannes Without Girlfriend Eva Mendes?

Gosling's directorial debut, Lost River, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in Un Certain Regard May 20, and while most of his film's cast did appear with him for the big night, notably absent was real-life girlfriend of three years Mendes, who also starred in the film.

Instead of cozying up to his on-again/off-again girlfriend, Gosling was photographed with his film's other star, Christina Hendricks, at both a photo call for the film and on the red carpet at the premiere.

Mendes' lack of appearance further fuels rumors that the pair may have split once again, as they haven't been photographed together since November of last year, and Mendes was expected to show up at the famous festival in support of her boyfriend's directorial debut.

In fact, fans were hoping Mendes would appear alongside her boyfriend at the Festival, following reports the couple was secretly engaged.

Mendes' absence, however, seems to imply that things are not going well for the couple.

Rumors even stated at one point that Gosling was leaving his girlfriend to rekindle his relationship with former girlfriend and The Notebook co-star Rachel McAdams.

Sources told OK! Magazine in March that McAdams was trying to win Gosling back, and that he has been somewhat receptive to the idea.

"Rachel has been very low-key about it all," the source said at the time. "She's played it very smart and used the whole 'just friends' angle to get close to Ryan again, but she 100 percent wants him back. He's not the cheating type, but he hasn't been honest with Eva about how much contact he has with Rachel."

Gosling and McAdams' relationship, which ended after two years back in 2007, has been known as one which Gosling looks back at fondly. In an interview with GQ shortly after the couple broke up, he even called McAdams one of the great loves of his life.

"I mean, God bless The Notebook," Gosling said at the time. "It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that."
