He may be one of the most lusted after actors in the world, but even Ryan Gosling can use improvements in his looks-at least, according to girlfriend Eva Mendes.

According to Radar Online, the 40-year-old actress is adamant about giving her 33-year-old boyfriend a makeover.

Though the actor has always chosen his own fashion and never worked with a stylist, Mendes, who has a fashion line sold at New York and Company stores, is now doing all of his shopping for him and trying to overhaul his usually scruffy look.

Eva "gets annoyed when Ryan goes overboard on the man-jewelry and she's not crazy about the fact that he's always wearing thrift store rings and second-hand necklaces and pendants," a source told the website.

To solve the issue with Gosling's choice in accessories, Mendes has reportedly begun actively picking out outfits for the actor that don't allow for him to pair the clothes with jewelry.

The one exception to the rule Mendes has set was Gosling's recent red carpet appearance in San Francisco. While appearing at the premiere of the film White Shadow, Gosling sported a small round pendant on a chain with the name Hugo engraved in it. Mendes' dog is named Hugo, and the jewelry proved the two were indeed still together, despite constant rumors wondering if they had broken up.

However, the happy couple could face potential problems if Gosling begins rebelling against the efforts Mendes has been making, though for now, he appears content to let her make the decisions.

"Eva feels she can make him look a lot better and hopes to change his style little by little," the source said. "They're still a very happy couple but she wears the pants for sure-Ryan is very dependent and childish behind the scenes. "
