Marvel's new Guardians of the Galaxy film is home to one very taciturn shrubbery, but that doesn't mean Vin Diesel had an easy time voicing Groot.

Marvel Casts Thanos For 'Guardians Of The Galaxy', Will He Appear In 'Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron'?

Star-Lord will assemble a very peculiar team of heroes for this summer's stellar adventure, including one gun-toting raccoon and leafy Monarch of Planet X. It's lucky that Rocket the Raccoon is armed with enough ammo and quips for two since his partner only ever utters one phrase - "I am Groot."

At first blush, it would appear as if Diesel had to spend very little time in the recording studio for his first Marvel role. However, the actor recently revealed that he had to utter Groot's signature line over a thousand times.

"I don't know. It felt like a thousand," Diesel explained in a Facebook Q&A. "[Director] James Gunn and I were having so much with it. So it could've been a thousand."

In addition, the duo spent much of their time trying to pack each sound bite with enough emotion to make the Flora Colossus into a main character.

"It was amazing to go in there and to work with someone who wanted to explore the character- we wanted each "I am Groot" to mean something different," Diesel said.
It reminded me, as an actor, how much we can do with so little- and if we're passionate about it, good thing can come from it."

Check out Groot in the preview below and catch Guardians of he Galaxy when it comes to theaters on Aug. 1.
