The intense HBO drama True Detective will be casting this month, and while most details for Season 2 have yet to be released, cast and crew from Season 1 agree that creator Nick Pizzolatto has managed to give the program it's own "identity."

Joaquin Phoenix in Talks for True Detective Season 2?

In an interview with Mathew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar) regarding his performance in Season 1, the actor discussed his appreciation for the script. "Talk about an identity," he said, "That show, tone, I mean you can smell the place, it's really got a deliberate identity."

McConaughey went on to comment on the format of the show, which allows for eight episodes to tell the story, with each season having a different story and different characters. "You can take your time and set things up [with the format]," added McConaughey, "and that was the pleasure in that... so you have so much more time to do those wonderful things that actors like to do, character work...which is usually the stuff they want to edit out in movies."

True Detective Season 2 Casting Rumors

While HBO is trying to keep a lid on details for True Detective's new season, it has been announced that the show will introduce two male leads and one female lead. It will take place in California, though not directly in Los Angeles.

With the impression the drama left on audiences through its exploration of the rural south, will True Detective be able to make its mark in a new location?

The "tone" McConaughey described was part of the program's success. Will Pizzolatto manage to retain that with a new narrative?

True Detective's second season is set to air on HBO in January 2015.
