Former Nsync member Lance Bass is reportedly engaged to Michael Turchin where he revealed the difficulties of growing up in a place that was against gay people.

On Thursday, Wreg.com posted a story on Bass and how he's involved with a documentary that gives details on what it was like to live in Mississippi. As an openly gay activist, Bass remembers his youth as a constant struggle.

"There wasn't a day that went by that I didn't think that someone might find out about me," Bass said in a phone interview. "I would always look and my mannerisms and the things I would say."

Despite coming out, Bass said that his family and friends were actually supportive of him, which was unlike the stories he had heard before.

"Everywhere I go, everyone is very supportive of gay rights and I just don't know where this is coming from," he said.

The documentary called "Mississippi I am" reportedly came from the image the state had ever since a girl named Constance McMillen couldn't take her girlfriend to her prom in Itawamba County.

"The stories kept coming out in my home state and I was like, I need to figure out what to do about this," Bass said. "So I sent cameras down to see what the temperature really was."

Bass is currently engaged to artist Michael Turchin, which is supposed to be the first nationally televised gay wedding. According to the site, the big day is expected to happen In February.
