According to reports, the film is set to be out in 2015 and will be directed by actress Angela Bassett. DaCosta isn't a stranger to acting. She has previously been in The Butler, Ugly Betty, All My Children and Tron: Legacy. Bassett co-starred in Waiting to Exhale with Houston.

Despite an impressive legacy and model looks, TMZ reported that Houston's family isn't so keen on the Lifetime film. The family believes that Houston deserves more than just a TV movie.

According to TMZ sources, the Houston family is so angered by the film they're considering legal action to block production. The family had already told Lifetime that they aren't on board with the film and expressed extreme displeasure.

The Houston family is also reportedly making their own big screen film, such as Michael Jackson's This Is It.

"Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie. If Whitney were here today, this would not be happening," Pat Houston told TMZ about the film.

Before the family's comments, Bassett had issued her own statement. "I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."
