Gracepoint was once an idyllic seaside hamlet, but the murder of a 12-year-old boy will film the California town on its head in Fox's latest event series.

A reimaging of Britain's 2013 breakout hit Broadchurch, Gracepoint will follow Emmett Carver (David Tennant) and Detective Ellie Miller's (Anna Gunn) investigation into the beachfront homicide of Danny Solano (Nikolas Filipovic). Unfortunately for the police duo, a small town always has its secrets and there will always be those wiling to protect them.

As the new trailer shows (see video below), there is more to this case than meets the eye, and betrayal may lie very close to the heart of the investigation.

"Gracepoint is, more than anything else, a whodunit," explained executive producer Dan Futterman in a Fox interview. "You learn who everybody is in the town and how they're related to each other. You find out somebody's died and you know, all those people we just met, it's probably one of them that's responsible for this."

For Danny's parents, this statement puts both them and their closest companions on Carver and Miller's suspect list. Will the detectives be able to overcome the secretive nature of a tightknit small town in order to bring a killer to justice? Viewers will have to wait for the finale twist to find out.

Gracepoint will air on Fox this fall.
