Of some of the criticisms Transformers 4: Age of Extinction has received is the length of the movie, clocking in at 165 minutes the movie was a bit too long for some people. In a recent interview producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke about how the sequel might pan out.

It seems like people who weren't happy about the duration of Age of Extinction won't get any respite with the sequel, if Michael Bay will still be on board.

In an interview with Slash Film dated July 3, Bonaventura suggested that they were hoping Bay sticks on for Transformers 5 and if he does things might not quite change in the time department.

When asked if there was the possibility of a shorter movie as fans might expect it now, the producer says that might very well happen.

"I think a couple things are at work," Bay said. "One is we have so many ideas it's hard to [fit them all in]. And the other is, the truth is Michael likes long movies. And if you look at all of his movies, they tend to be long. Not just the Transformers movies, you know. So I think that's what he likes to do and I think, you know, hoping he stays with the franchise, we'll probably have another long movie."

Earlier this year it had been revealed that Transformers 4: Age of Extinction was only the beginning to a new phase in the series, and a trilogy will be led by Mark Wahlberg. But there seem to have been talk of issues between Bay and Paramount as he has set the condition of working on a passion project, like Pain and Gain from last year, before getting to Transformers 5.

In an interview with Screen Rant dated June 27, producer Ben Kendrick spoke about Age of Extinction and Transformers 5.

Kendrick dismissed the rumors about the producers looking for a replacement for Bay in the movies.

"I think it's one of those classic things where somebody reported that and suddenly it became our plan. We have never discussed the idea of how to hand it off, honestly," he said. "It's not like we don't think, well what happens if Michael doesn't do it, of course you do. But we want to keep Michael on this, so we're not spending any time worrying about who could come in. We're trying to figure out how to keep him going and keep him excited."

Meanwhile, it doesn't seem like Age of Extinction has been a success with critics as it has gotten some pretty bad reviews pointing to a sensory overload with excessive use of technical, CGI mined wizardry and a lack of a strong plot, with the human characters almost rendered meaningless.

Transformers: Age of Extinction will hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
